Bruce joined Trahan Architects in 2021, bringing with him extensive international experience from multiple stints living in Asia to work, study, and teach. He comes to the firm after completing his graduate studies as a participant in the esteemed Global Track Program, earning a Master of Architecture degree from Shanghai’s Tongji University and a Doctor of Architecture degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. His academic design work and research has been recognized with numerous awards and publications, including his doctorate dissertation receiving a Hawaii Architectural Foundation Award for outstanding research. Prior to his graduate studies, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese with honors from the University of Utah.

Bruce’s work experience includes spending time working in the Beijing headquarters of the architecture division of China State Construction (CSCEC)—the world’s largest construction company, as well as working in various professional and academic capacities in Honolulu, Hawaii. His design approach is informed by his desire to create authentic contemporary spaces in harmony with existing cultural and environmental contexts.
