Initiatives

Our curiosity in design extends beyond the boundaries of a building. Fondation Trahan provides the vehicle to acquire, create, and protect places of singular cultural and ecological significance – informing our practice to generate transcendent architectural and landscape form.

Through the establishment of Fondation Trahan, we centralize our philanthropic efforts by supporting initiatives that foster healing the earth, air, and water on which all life depends.

Together, these initiatives expand the discipline of architecture beyond buildings-into realms of ecology: embodying the core values of humility, authenticity, integrity, healing, and beauty through the interconnectedness of all things.

These initiatives serve as incubators and testing grounds of our Ethos. Revealing new perspectives on some of the most pressing issues of today and how they will affect the future of society, culture and the environment.

Live Oak

Live Oak is a 245-acre former plantation located in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. The property holds many histories in its soil, from the ancient Tunica trading path, to the centuries of forced labor in the plantation fields, to the many stories of those who have travelled up its 200-year old Oak Allée. Trahan Architects is leading a team of professionals to research and reveal Live Oak’s history with the goal of conservation and healing based on a belief in our shared humanity.

Fondation Trahan is working as stewards of the land to authentically unearth these stories – carefully uncovering and conserving the house’s original 1808 details and form, re-orienting the entry and allowing the Oak Allee to return to nature, removing invasive species and planting historic seed types indigenous to the land. Live Oak invites research, reflection, and healing.
