Trahan Architects is grateful to be recognized by the 2017 AIA New Orleans Design Awards. Magnolia Mound Visitors Center received the Honor Award, the highest honor of the evening. The Alliance Theatre Transformation and the College Station Boutique Hotel each received an Honorable Mention for Unbuilt Architecture.

Each year the New Orleans awards program accomplishes three simple, yet invaluable, goals: celebrate the best of this region’s architecture; recognize achievement in a broad range of architectural work; and inform the public of the breadth and value of architectural practice.

The Design Awards would not have been possible without the generous support of our community of partners and sponsors (Landis Construction, Core Construction, AOS, Lettermans, TLC Engineering, Broadmoor, Workplace Solutions, Horizon Italian Tile and many other firms and partners)!

Trey Trahan, FAIA will give a lecture as part of the Masters of a Generation Series, a series of talks presented by Jonathan Segal FAIA and Jonny Cars. The talk will take place on March 17, 2017 from 5:30-7:00 Pacific Time in San Diego, CA. To purchase tickets click here.

Masters of a Generation was founded by Jonathan Segal FAIA to educate and raise awareness about the varying processes and approaches to creating works of architecture, and to advance the appreciation of multi-generational information exchange.

In welcoming these Masters who have made lasting contributions to our culture, society and built environment, we recognize and pay tribute to their ongoing legacies as we learn more about their defining moments and the paths leading up to them. We do so in hopes that this invaluable information is carried on through future generations and provides the means necessary to negotiate the inevitable challenges and failures and feasible successes encountered on the road to becoming a Master.

Masters of a Generation is a program of Adjoin, Inc. a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (application pending). 100% of net proceeds from this program will benefit Labrador relief and rescue organizations throughout San Diego County and Baja, California.

The Woodruff Arts Center’s Alliance Theatre Phase 1 nears completion. Construction is underway renovating the existing 3rd and 4th floor of the Alliance Theatre support spaces. The new costume shop facility will be crowned with refurbished skylights and thoughtful storage. When completed, the rehearsal hall will feature new clerestory glazing and an elegant sound and light control ceiling.

The Alliance Theatre has hosted countless shows and other cultural events in its half-century on Peachtree Street in Midtown, but nothing compares to the drama of destruction currently playing out in the space.

Instagram photos posted by an account likely belonging to Victor W. Smith, the director of production for the Alliance, highlight the demolition within the Woodruff Arts Center.

The work is clearing the way for a transformational renovation to give new life to the 1960s-era venue.

Plans for the eye-popping renovation bubbled up nearly two years ago. Since, more details have been revealed about the sinuous new wood interior.

A $38-million grant, secured back in 2014, jump-started the process of what will ultimately be a $110-million initiative to include the theater renovation, new learning spaces, pre-performance spaces, and more inviting public spaces for visitors, as well as endowments and funding for an array of programs.
